Description of the route
The route begins from the west limit of the Iron Natural Park on DN 57A, at 2 km of Socol and follows the national road to Pojejena , after 500 m on the left side can be seen 2 folds of sheep and nearby at the edge of the road we have a fountain (1) ; then the route continues on the national road and after 700 m on the left side we see cliff formations that create a special view until Ostrovul Calinovăt, then after 350 m we see the ruins of a stone bridge that used to be the groundwork of the first railway in Romania of the coalmenin Oraviţa Baziaș;it made the connection between Baziaș and Biserica Albă in Serbia 100 years ago; then after 1,8 km we arrive in Baziaș where we can see the ruins of an old building of over 150 years that used to be a water tower , as well as the famous Serbian orthodox monastery in Bazias – Locaşul Sf Sava from 1225 18th century ; still here in Bazias we have a fountain and a lay-over place in Baziaș .The route continues on DN57 and after 600 m on the right side we see Apus de Soare cabin where you can stay overnight and serve a hot meal, and on the right side you may also see the ruins of what used to be a casino. Then we leave Bazias and after a distance of about 2,5 km we can see on the course of the Danube the Calinovat island, an island that has got a strict protection regime, being the integral protection area as special area of avifauna protection and has got a surface of 24 ha.After passing the Calinovaţ island and after 3 km we arrive in Starii Divici, where we have Flying Fish boarding house , a mixed shop (1)and the west limit of the special Area of Avifauna Protection Divici-Pojejenawhich extends along the Danube shore that contains associated ponds until Pojejena and has got a surface of 498 ha ; from the west limit a of the protection area where there is an informing panel we travel at a distance of 1,5 km and meet the road junction (1)of the main route with a secondary route, we enter this secondary route and after a distance of 200 m on a back road we arrive on the Danube shore where you can admire the avifauna and the specific hygrophile vegetation, birds, rush-bed. We return to the main route and continue on the main route on the national road and after 150 m on the left side we have escarpment with martins Natural Reservation bordering IUCN: IV Surface : 5,0 ha, and after 500 m we enter Divici, and after 500 m we have a mixed shop (2) on the right sideand after 400 m a fountain (2) . we leave Divici and after 1,3 km on the left side we meet Gina boarding house , and we enter Belobresca as well and after about 200 m we meet another road junction (2)of the main route with a secondary one, we follow this secondary route at a distance of 600 m and we arrive at the Danube shore ; here you can see the ruins of a mill and the avifauna and hygrophile vegetation characteristic to the protection area.
We return on the main route, we continue along the road through Belobreșca and after500m we pass near Serbian Cultural Centerwhich can be visited; then we leave the locality and after800 m we enter Șușca locality; here at close distances on the right side there is a fountain (3)and a mixed shop (3) and nearby there is another shop and at the exit from Sușca locality at a distance of 350 m we see the set up lay-over place and a bird observer ; after 1,7 km we meet the west limit of the special Area of Avifauna Protection and an informing panel; immediately afterwards we enter Pojejena and after 900 m we arrive at the city hall; at 150 m from it we see another mixed shop(4), and after 350 m there is a fountain (4) and then another mixed shop; then the route intersects the national road DN 57.At this crossroads on the opposite part there is an informing center of the Iron Gates Natural Park. From here the tourist route goes to Moldova Veche localityand after 2,5 km we enter Macesti locality, at exit outside the tourist route, we see Melinda boarding house , then after about 1,4km before entering Moldova Veche on a devious road on the leftthere is Dunărea boarding houseand on the national road a gas station (1) ; the tourist route follows the road that passes through Moldova Veche locality. in this locality along the route on the national road we have Penny and Plus market ,a branch of BRD bank, a sweatshop for reparing bikes, and after leaving the locality you see another gas station (2);the exit route from the locality continues at a distance of 1 km then it leaves the national road at a road junction(3)on the right side and continues until the edge of the Danube for about 600 m. From here you can use a boat until Ostrovul Moldova Veche, special Area of Avifauna Protection having a surface of 1627 ha. The tourist route in Ostrov goes on the right edge of it on a back road at a distance of 4,5 km . Here there is also the end of the route.The return is done on the same route until DN 57.

It travels through areas with elements of a special natural patrimony (natural reservations, of areas of special Avifauna Protection ) with habitats and species of birds and animals protected by national and communitarian regulation.
Baltă Nera – Dunăre Natural Reservation, Area of Special Preservation
Bordering IUCN– IV surface 10,0 ha.
The importance of the reservation is given by the wet area with specific hydrophilic and hygrophile vegetation (Typha sp., Phragmites sp., Carex sp., Salix sp.), an a rich aquatic avifauna : the little egret (Egretta garzetta), pygmy cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmaeus), common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis). All the three species are strict protected by the Convention of Berna and there are in the International Red List as being vulnerable species. Concerning the mammals we notice here European otter (Lutra lutra) a strict protectes species by the Convention of Berna, the wild cat (Felis silvestris), the wolf (Canis lupus) etc. here we can also meet the European mudminnow (Umbra kramerii) a fish species strict protected by the international regulation. An important point for birdwaching- Calinovat island, Area of special Preservation, Special Area of Avifauna Protection, Bordering IUCN: IV, Surface : 24,0 ha.
Ostrov represents a true oasis for a lot of species of birds fount during the seasonal migrations or for nestling. Avifauna is well represented, and among the most important species we can meet: Eurasian bittern (Botaurus stellaris), pygmy cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmaeus), the little egret (Egretta garzetta), the kingfisher (Alcedo atthis),thefish eagle (Pandion haliaetus), black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax). We mention that all the species of birds enumerated before, are strict protected by regulation.
Escarpment with martinsNatural ReservationBordering IUCN: IV Surface : 5,0 ha
The reservation was designated for protecting the nests and the colonies of red-rumped swallows (Hirundo dahurica) built in the steeps formed in the quaternary loessoid deposits.
The species is rare and protected by the Convention of Berna and is on the International Red List as being vulnerable species.
Divici – Pojejena Wet Area: Special Area of Avifauna Protection; Bordering IUCN: IV; Surface : 498,0 ha
The wet area made up of ponds and the water surface of the Danube that appeared due to the formation of the barrier lake of the Iron Gates Hydro central I.
It favoured the change of the initial ecosystems and the appearance of the ecosystems of wet area which have an intermediary position between the land and aquatic systems. It appears under the form of ponds, moors, constant fresh natural waters, having a very reduced flow, as well as low grounds flooded periodically.
The area of ponds represents an important point of reproduction and rising of the sapling of the Danube fish species as: carp, pike, tench, zander, catfish etc. the area is an important point for birdwatching.
Avifauna is well represented, among the most important species we can meet: Eurasian bittern (Botaurus stellaris), pygmy cormorant(Phalacrocorax pygmaeus), the little egret (Egretta garzetta), the kingfisher (Alcedo atthis),thefish eagle (Pandion haliaetus), black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax).
Ostrovul Moldova VecheSpecial Area of Avifauna Protection; Bordering IUCN: IV; Surface :1627,0 ha,
On the island 72 bird species were identified among which a number of 28 species are included in the European Directive regarding the protection of the wild birds, among which we can mention the following ones: Phalacrocorax pygmaeus, Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis, Aerdea purpurea, Nycticorax nycticorax, Egretta garzetta, Oenantha hispanică, Anas strepera, Anas plathyrhynchos, Larus argenttatus.
Among the rare species of fish we can mention: Lota lotaand Umbra krameri. Flora is represented by arboreal elements like: Salix albă, Populus albă, Salix purpureaand tumble- weeds like Salvinia natans, Elodea canadensis, Phragmites australis, Butomus umbellatus, Iris pseudacorus, etc. the area is an important point for birdwatching.
