Description of the route

Entrance  the route  is done  from Gura Văii, the road that passes through the town  at  about 50m of the railway bridge, enters the road that goes on the limit between  UP.IV and UP.V of  O.S.Tr.Severin, tourist marking  being represented by a blue vertical band  with white background. After about 550 m. One can meet  aturn-out (1) the route following the left deviated line . Here the sylvan vegetation  is represented by the mixture of oriental hornbeamand manna , after about 200m, the deviated lines unite and continue on the same way, in the north-west direction, and after  about 350m  it passes near the sylvan bollard 4 UP.V , then it  passes a small gladeof 70 m  arrives at  Saser Stefan’s dwelling  situatedon the left side of the route. Herethere is  the only drinkable water  on the route, a well in the yard of the dwelling.  After  about 130 m, on the left side of the route there is  Colibasanu Stelu’s dwelling , after 250 m on the left side, there is Lăpădat Cristina’s dwelling ; the route continues at about 60 m too,  enters sylvan background  , passes near the sylvan bollard  152 UP.IV (mixture of holm and  oriental hornbeam), then after 300 m it meets a road junction (2), follows the deviated line from the left  on a section of 350 m until another  road junction(3) , the route following  the road that climbed a small crest. This section has short hills and downs  following  the same limit of  UPs, after 1,2 km  it meets the sylvan bollards 7 UP.V ,then  after about 250 m the route meets the bifurcation (4) , following the deviated line  on the left and after  100 m we pass near the sylvan bollard  10 from UP.V . After about  50m the route leaves the limit of  UPs  and follows the road on the left entering a holm forest, it arrives at a bifurcation  (5) after 400 m and enters a path on which you can walk , in a lime-tree forest.  At about  330 m. you enter a small opening where a lay-over place is set up; the route continues and after we pass  200 m  on the path it arrives at another bifurcation  (6) , follows the deviated line on the left by a mixture of holm  and oriental hornbeam   on a distance of 280 m  and we arrive at the belvedere Point  1. From here we can go parallel with the Danube on a distance of  100 m until the belvedere Point  2 following the same path on which you can walk.  It follows a section of small ups and downs of  900 m where Saint Peter’s Cross is , onCross Hill (Saint Peter’s Cross). From here it starts the climb-down section  which presents a difficult ascent (of about 20%) and after about 60m you enter a fir-tree forest  with tourist marking at the visibility limit  (50m), weaving until the route exit point  after 600 m,  being the  end of the route  as well, near the  Padina Gardului viaduct , onEuropean Road 70.

Natural elements and attractions:

Wood vegetation is represented by a forest of mixture, where we can meet elements as  the hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), the holm (Quercus petraea), garniţa (Quercus frainetto), firtree (Tilia platifillos), but also Mediterranean  elementsasoriental hornbeamor the butcher’s broom  (Ruscus aculeatus); versants from the Danube are also covered mostly with liliac scrubs   (Syringa vulgaris).

Flower species are characteristic to the temperate-continental climate, with  submediterranean influences , as orchids (Orchys), sweet William (Diantus), violas (Viola) or snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis).

The fauna is represented by some mammals  as the wolf  (Canis lupus), the buck (Capreolus Capreolus) or the wild cat (Felis sylvestris), reptilesas the tortoise  (Testudo hermanni boetgerri), the green lizard (Lacerta viridis) or lizard  (Lacerta agilis), birds like  aigrette (Egretta), the cormorant (Phalacrocorax), the grebe (Podiceps), the hen-harrier (Buteo buteo) or the red kestrel (Falco tinnunculus).

On the Cross Hill (P.B.3) you can admire, the Hydroenergetic and Marine  System  Iron Gates I, which is placed at the crossroads of the road  E70 with the road   on the cornice of the barrage. The construction was inaugurated at  7th September 1964 by the two riverain countries  Romania and Iugoslavia. The hydraulic ram barrage has got a length of  411 m and a height of  55,5 m, the Iugoslavia road that makes the connection between the two banks  having a broadness  of 7,8 m . On the two banks there is the  flood gate system with a length of 30 m and a broadness of  34 m which allows the locking of a convoy  made up of a tug-boat and nine barges,  the entire operation lasting for about  1h. The  hydroelectric centrals  are located between the  hydraulic ram barrage  and flood gates, the annual production of electric energy being of about  10 billiardKW/h.

The European road  E70 that goes parallel to electrified railways and which makes the connection  between the towns  Drobeta Turnu Severin and  Orşova,  was used in 1968, the railways passing 56 bridges and viaducts, 100 foot boardsand  9 tunnels.

The traditional occupations of the local people have firstly a mixed profile, imposedon one hand by the varied requests of living, and on the other hand by the self-sufficient character  that the rural household  had lately. Among these there are the following ones: the cultivation of agrarian products, sheeping, fishing, hunting, rising silk worms, milling, the wood manufacture, manufacturing of the handicraft objects and textiles, etc.

Traditional foodofcow, sheep and goat  milk, lures youon the entire eco-tourist touring , proving to the potential sojourners, the hospitality that characterizes the entire area.
